Book Blogger Hop - January 7-10, 2011

Book Blogger Hop The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books.  This week's question is:

"What book influenced or changed your life? How did it influence or change you?"

There are two books that answer this question for me.  They are: Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain and Black Beauty by Anna Sewell.  These two books are absolutely responsible for my lifelong love and passion for reading and books.  My Grandma got them for me shortly after I learned to read as a child.  They were slightly beyond my reading level but she helped me get through them.  And in a very real way opened my eyes and imagination to the entire world through reading.  There have been many other books that I have felt strongly about in my life (and hopefully many to come) but none moreso than these as they are the ones that made me fall in love with reading.  Books in general have been a constant influence for me.

  1. I still haven't read either of the books you listed. I should! I hope you're enjoying 1984. It was very different reading for me when i read it a few years ago but I really liked it.

  2. Wow, that's amazing! I loved both of those books as a kid...Tom Sawyer was the first book I checked out of the library.

  3. This will probably come of something as a surprise but the book that changed/influenced my life (more than any other) is a non-fiction book. I know we all focus on novels and the fanciful fiction we love to read but The Four Work Week is the book that gets all the credit. I know the title sounds fictional but it really isn’t. Happy Book Blogger Hop Day!

  4. I can remember reading all the Mark Twain I could get my hands on in 9th grade.

I don't have a single book to point to. Come by and see why.
