Reading Challenges

As you can see based on my pages at the top of my blog, I am participating in three reading challenges during 2012.  At least, I'm supposed to be participating.  The truth is, I'm not doing very well with the challenges this year.  I am some degree of behind on each one.  I'm not one hundred percent certain as to why this is the case.  I have done reading challenges quite successfully in past years.

I am hoping/planning to catch up and complete the challenges for 2012.  However, I am wondering if perhaps this is a sign that I should forego the challenges in 2013.  Perhaps it'll be a year of reading simply for the pleasure of reading and not for the partial need to fulfill a challenge.  I suppose I'll decide definitively as this year draws to an end.

How about you? Do you participate in reading challenges? If so, how ar eyou doing with yours?

2011 Historical Romance Challenge

Photobucket I love historical romance novels.  I love the romance genre, period.  So, when I founf this challenge through The Enchanted Book (a blog I just found and fell in love with) I just had to sign up for it.

This will be an easy and enjoyable challenge.  It is being hosted by Danielle at Romance Book Junkies.  The goal is to read twelve hhistorical romance books between January 1 and December 31, 2011.  Like I said, enjoyable.  Feel free to click the image if you want to sign up for the fun challenge.

The Christmas Spirit Reading Challenge

After completing NaNoWriMo (full details to be posted on Wednesday) I will be in the mood for lots of books with a wonderful Christmas theme.  Luckily, I just discovered The Christmas Spirit (the blog, that is) and this reading challenge.  Thank you Debbie at The Friday Friends

Here are the details (taken straight from the snnouncement/sign up post at The Christmas Spirit) for the challenge:

- cross overs with other challenges is totally permitted AND encouraged!

- These must be Christmas novels, books about Christmas lore or a book of Christmas short stories (sorry, no children's books, but YA novels are okay).

visit this POST (which takes you to The Christmas Spirit blog) for a list of new Christmas books for 2010. Also, Richard Paul Evans has a new book out this year, Promise Me. His Christmas books are among my favorites during the Christmas season.

--Candy Cane: read 1 book

--Mistletoe: read 2-4 books

--Christmas Tree: read 5 or 6 books (this is the fanatic level...LOL!)

Musing Monday's

Musing Monday's is hosted by Rebecca at Just One More Page. This week, Rebecca asks:
Are you planning on participating in the upcoming readathon? Why not tell us a little about your plans: reading solo or with a partner/group? How long to do plan to read? Do you have your books chosen? If not reading, do you plan to be a cheerleader? The floor is yours.

Well, this is the first I am learning about said readathon. It takes place this Saturday, April 10, 2010. It lasts for 24 hours. This is a challenge that is right up my alley. In theory. In reality - I know that I will not be able to read for a straight 24 hours. For one thing - as sad as this - I don't know if I can stay awake the entire time. Also, I seriously doubt my husband and children would like it if all I did for half the weekend is read. And finally, I am attending a birthday celebration for one of my girlfriends on Saturday. So no, I will not be reading for 24 straight hours. However, I will read as much as possible but that's to be expected as I read as much as possible anyway.

I read that this Read-a-Thon takes place in October, too. Maybe I'll schedule the 24 hours then and read until I can't keep my eyes open anymore.
