The Reflex by Duran Duran
While driving home from tap class the other night my daughter and I heard Duran Duran's The Reflex on the radio. It's one of my favorite songs by them and my daughter likes it, too. So of course we were listening to it loud and proudly singing along. She asked about the video and I told her I'd show it to her. Now I'm sharing it here, too. Enjoy!

Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas
One of my favorites! We heard it last night on the way home from celebrating Thanksgiving with family! My husband and kids know I love this song and actually they do, too. However, my kids started asking questions about the meaning and we explained to them the charitable reasons behind the song. We explained what the conditions were like in Africa in 1984 and the suffering that was (and still is in some ways) happening there. It made us all sad to think of the suffering but it also helped to know the there are good people - regular, everyday people and celebrities - who care and want to make a positive difference in this world. So a great song, turned into a history lesson and a great conversation as a family. It's something to definitely be thankful for.

Duran Duran article
Duran Duran - a Phenomenon that may never happen again according to the Huffington Post. Considering that they are my favorite band - and have been for a LONG time - I'm inclined to agree with this article! Still, it's a good one worth sharing - so enjoy!

Duran Duran and Snoopy

So in love with this! A friend shared this with me on Facebook. It's not mine, though I may need to buy one! LOL Oh, and I absolutely agree with Snoopy here.

95.5 KLOS The Sessions talks Duran Duran's Rio
There's a radio station where I live in Southern California called KLOS 95.5. They do a show called The Sessions. They are currently talking about the greatness of the Duran Duran song that is Rio. If they release the discussion (which is a dissection of the brilliance of this song!) I will add that, too. In the meantime, here's the oh-so-fun video! Enjoy!

A Birthday and a Debut
Today is a great day for music. Well, everyday is, in my opinion, but there are a couple of things that stand out today as far as I'm concerned.
One: Happy Birthday to the front man of Duran Duran, Simon le Bon. My kids love that I still love this band and know that October 27th is his birthday. They can laugh all they want because they love Duran Duran, too. In fact, their school is having band t-shirt day tomorrow. Guess whose band t-shirts they want to borrow? That's right, my kids want to wear D2 concert shirts to school tomorrow. I'll let them but they have to let me take pictures. Anyway, in honor of Simon's birthday, enjoy their video for the fantastic All You Need is Now.
Two: There's a new singer named Sam Hunt. He is so talented and has such fun music. He currently has a Top 5 song in country radio and his debut album Montevallo is out today. It's fabulous and I highly recommend it. If you haven't heard anything by him, here's Leave the Night On, his Top 5 hit:

Duran Duran and Mazda Live
Duran Duran and Mazda
The three songs we saw were A View to a Kill, Hungry Like the Wolf and All You Need is Now. It looked like they were going to do more but they weren't streamed live. I was really hoping for a new song from their forthcoming album. Oh well. Duran Duran sounded great and they still rock my world. :)

All You Need Is Now
The thirteenth Duran Duran album is finally here - in its astounding entirety. I can not stop listening to this CD! It is so amazing and so, so worth the wait! Best Buy is selling a deluxe version (extra tracks) of the CD along with a companion DVD. Of course, this is the version I had to have! Here is the complete track listing:
1. All You Need Is Now
2. Blame the Machines
3. Being Followed
4. Leave a Light On
5. Safe (in the Heat of the Moment)
6. Girl Panic!
7. A Diamond in the Mind
8. The Man Who Stole a Leopard
9. Other People's Lives
10. Mediterranea
11. Too Bad You're So Beautiful
12. Runway Runaway
13. Return to Now
14. Before the Rain
15. Too Close to the Sun
16. Early Summer Nerves
17. Networker Nation
The songs in bold are my my favorites on the album (with the number one being 'Leave a Light On') but honestly, the whole CD is just completely fabulous! And now, I am cautiously excited about going to see Duran Duran at the Mayan in Los Angeles tomorrow night. I say cautious because I hope there's no trouble getting in with the ticketless tickets. If you have ever liked Duran Duran in any way, I highly recommend this CD to you.

Duran Duran Album Update
Anyone who knows me knows that Duran Duran is my favorite band. Ever. I fell in love with them in the 80's and have never grown out of them. Despite the fact that my mom swore I would when I had my teenage room wall papered with their posters, and doodles about them all over my school notebooks. LOL
I admit that there is not a single picture of Duran Duran hanging in my home now. However, I have all of their CD's and everything I've ever owned of theirs - including all of my vinyl albums and singles. It helps that my husband is a DJ, of course. Duran Duran have been working on their latest studio album (with Mark Ronson) for some time. I am happy to learn that it is almost (if not already) complete. I hope this means that the release date will be this Autumn.
Part of what I've always loved about Duran Duran is that they are musicians. I admire the fact that they will try new things but always with the integrity of their art and craft in mind. As seen in the above video they're using an antique military drum in one of their songs for this album. I love that - it is so cool.
While I am thoroughly looking forward to the new album I am also eagerly anticipating a tour. There's nothing like seeing them live. The bonus is that my children now adore their music and my oldest wants to see them in concert. I told her I'll take her to their concert(s) with me this time. It's very exciting experiencing the music through the eyes and ears of my children. In a way it makes it all new again.
