Teaser Tuesday: A Man Called Ove (2)

Teaser Tuesday is newly hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. To play along, just do the following:

- Grab your current read

- Open to a random page

- Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR list if they like your teaser.

My teaser this week is from page 106 of A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman:

"Right, then. So you have to drive us."

Ove makes a courageous attempt to point threateningly at her. But to his own dismay he feels it's not as convincing as he might have hoped.

"There are no have-tos around here. I'm not some bloody mobility service!"

Manic Monday

Yep, this about sums up my day. There were good portions of it but overall it was a crazy day. I'm hoping tomorrow and the rest of the week go more smoothly. Have a great week everyone!

The Little Mermaid

This afternoon my kids and I saw an amazing production of The Little Mermaid. Of course we've all seen the Disney film numerous times but none of us had seen the play until today. It was so great! It got me to thinking about the story itself and trying to remember if I've ever read the Hans Christian Andersen story. I don't think I have but I want to. In searcing for it this evening I found it online here

My teaser this week is from page 11 of A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman:

Ove has paid his mortgage. Done his duty. Gone to work. Never taken a day of sick leave. Shouldered his share of the burden. Taken a bit of responsibility. No one does that anymore, no one takes responsibility.

A little each day

A little progress everyday adds up to BIG results!

I saw this quote today and I realize that it is SO TRUE! I've been feeling unhappy with what I was thinking of as my lack of progress lately. This helped me to realize that I am making progress! Maybe it isn't as much and as fast as I'd like but I'm still writing, still editing and therefore, still moving forward!

"Do you have any - trinkets - from back when?"

"Now there's a loaded question from a cop over breakfast. I did have a few, here and there," he said with a shrug. "But I passed them on, you could say, when a cop came into my life - as she wouldn't like it."

"She wouldn't have known."

"I would have."

Valentines every day

Image result for love my family quotes

My family- my husband and our children - are my Valentines every day of every year! My husband has a commitment tomorrow night so we celebrated Valentines Day today. Though to be honest, we believe in showing one another - and our children - love every day. My husband and daughter went grocery shopping today and brought home flowers. Then he made an incredibly delicious salmon dinner. We sat down and ate all together while we talked and laughed and shared about our day. It made me so happy to spend our evening this way.

I hope everyone enjoys their Valentines - tomorrow and every day through the year.

Doctor Who

Yes, I know about Doctor Who. I even watched it with my dad when I was younger. It used to be that when I'd think of 'The Doctor" I would imagine Tom Baker because that's who played the Doctor when I watched with my dad. However, my kids have gotten into Doctor Who recently. When my oldest started asking a lot of questions about the show we tried finding episode on Netflix and Hulu - to no avail. We also tried getting episodes on YouTube - but again, not much luck. So I tried our local library. They had the complete season with David Tennant. He's fantastically good as The Doctor and now I'm thinking of him when I think of Doctor Who. My kids want to see more, of course, and I'm on board with them but I wonder how they'll feel seeing another actor in the role.

It has also come to my attention that there are books based on Doctor Who. I'll definitely be checking out some of those. In the meantime, enjoy this clip of David Tennant as The Doctor:

Sky love

I am fascinated with the sky. That's probably why I take and share so many photos of it! I think it's so interesting how it looks different every day.

Old friends

I feel like I'm visiting old friends when I read a new book in a series I love. I am currently reading Echoes in Death by J.D. Robb. This is the 44th book in her In Death series and it is as amazing as ever! Even though these are stories that revolve around homicide I still love being immersed in this world and 'seeing' the characters and what they're up to! Does anyone else feel this way about books and characters?

Musing Monday's: Echoes in Death

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme hosted by The Purple Booker that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer:
  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Do you try out genres you have not liked in the past once in a while just to see if your taste changed?

Tomorrow the new J.D. Robb book Echoes in Death is being released. I will be getting that first thing and diving into it. This is the 44th book in this series and it amazes me how it continues to feel fresh. I was a late-comer to this series because I was afraid it would be too gruesome for me. I admit that sometimes I do cringe while reading some of the scenes - they main character is a homicide detective - but I love the characters so much! I come back to this series again and again because I love Eve and Roarke so much!

An apple a day...

Image result for health quotes about apples

I've been reading Life Changing Foods by Anthony William. He recommends one apple per day for kids and two for adults. There is so much wonderful information in this book about staying healthy through eating a plant based diet. I know the things we've tried in our family have been beneficial already. I'm ready to try his recommendations with a higher level of commitment. I think my husband is there, as well.

Books are magic

Image result for what to read next quotes

I absolutely agree with this quote from the great Stephen King. Although, at the moment, I'm not sure what to read next. I've just finished a book by Nora Roberts called Times Change. It was good but not my most favorite book by her. Now I'm ready to dive into another book but I don;t have anything lined up yet. I guess I should go through my Nook and choose something from there. If anyone has any book recommendations please feel free to share them.
