Readathon Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon. I'm ready to go and so are my kids. We have piles of books and snacks and plan to mostly veg out tomorrow reading. I say mostly because we are going to take a trip to the library. We already have books, as I said, but we have some due tomorrow so we might as well pick up some more.

I am excited to read the Enola Holmes series with my kids. These are books that have Sherlock Holmes' little sister as the main character. I didn't even know this series existed! I was a HUGE Sherlock Holmes fan as a kid (and yes, I also LOVE the modern British TV version). My kids are enthralled with the prospect of these books too which is always a good thing. I'm also looking forward to finishing Tears of the Moon by Nora Roberts. This is an older book by but I love it! I will also be reading from Gone With the Wind as I am reading it for the first time with one of my best friends.

I'm going to make Crock Pot lasagna (yes, that is a thing, a DELICIOUS thing!) for dinner tomorrow. So my home will smell fabulous all day, too. This is one of my kids' favorite things to eat so they are extra happy. Win win.

So yes, I am excited for tomorrow. Who else is participating?

Teaser Tuesdays: Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts

Teaser Tuesday's is hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm. To play along, just do the following:

- Grab your current read

- Open to a random page

- Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR list if they like your teaser.

My teaser this week is from Nook page 103 of Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts:

"Sure there's a catch if the story's a good one. Now this witch had a black heart and the powers she had she abused."

Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon

Another round of Dewey’s 24-Hour readathon is quickly approaching. In fact, the next adventure is this coming Saturday, April 25, 2015. In case you are unfamiliar with this it is a challenge to read as much as possible and as much as you want during the twenty-four hour period. There are also a lot of challenges and other fun things happening within the book lover’s community. So, if you feel up to it, sign up and enjoy the crazy fun.

I will be participating along with my children. They have come to enjoy this almost as much as I do. Of course, none of us make the entire twenty-four hours but that’s okay. The amount of enjoyment we get out of reading together during the readathon is what makes it worth it to me. Of course, I do continue reading on my own once they’ve gone to bed but that’s me every night.

Another fun part of Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon (at least for my children and I) is preparing for it We go to the library and stock up on books to read. That means we always have far more books than we actually complete but I think that’s perfectly all right. Who knows what you’re going to be in the mood to read when you’ve finished one book, right? Another thing we love is going shopping for our food. I usually like to cook something in my Crock Pot on readathon day. We get to smell the delicious scents while we’re reading during the day and then dinner is easily served and cleaned up afterward. In fact, we have even continued with our reading a couple of times. This isn’t always the case though as we like to talk and spend time as a family during dinner. Then there are the snacks. I think this is what my kids love the best about the food aspect of the readathon. And okay, it’s my favorite part (besides the reading, of course), too. We usually have chopped, raw vegetables and dip, chips and salsa and something sweet. I don’t go completely overboard but I do let my kids choose something they aren’t allowed to have on a regular basis.

So, it is six days until the next readathon and we are eagerly anticipating it.
