Meet Me On Monday - April 18, 2011

Meet Me on Monday is hosted by Java at Never Growing Old. This weeks questions (and answers) are as follows:

1. Caesar Salad or Garden Salad?
Garden salad but with dark green lettuce and lots of veggies.  And Ranch dressing.  Yum!

2. Will you be watching the Royal Wedding on April 29th?
I won't be able to watch it as it happens but will definitely catch whatever repeats or highlights that I can.  I'm really interested in the Royal Wedding and my husband just can not understand why.

3. Last thing you spent lots of money on?
I am super frugal (yes, cheap is the right word for me).  I have serious feelings of panic if I spend too much money at once so this doesn't really apply to me.

4. Window seat or aisle seat?
I need an aisle seat.  Even at the movies I prefer to sit on the aisle.  I don't like feeling like I'm stuck in the middle or bothering people if I have to get up.

5. Do you know your blood type?
No.  I realize that is so not smart that I don't know it but I just never remember it.  I've been told (more than once, even) what it is but it never sticks in my brain.  Weird, I know.

Google and Yahoo.

Have a great week everyone!

Meet Me On Monday: April 4, 2011

Meet Me on Monday is hosted by Java at Never Growing Old. This weeks questions (and answers) are as follows:

1. If you had to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pasta - any kind of pasta.  It's definitely my food downfall.

2. Do you write your blog posts in advance or the day you post them?
The day I post them.

3. Have you ever ridden in an ambulance?
Yes and I was scared beyond belief! My oldest daughter was 17 months and woke up shaking like a leaf and vomitting bile.  Her skin was splotchy, blue and red and hot and cold to the touch.  It was odd and seriously scary.  I called 911 and managed to stay super calm through the entire call.  The operator immediately dispatched the paramedics and they got to us so fast.  When a small child needs to ride in an ambulance - a parent or guardian is required (if able) to be on the gurney and holding the child - which I would have done anyway.  It turned out that my daughter had a urinary tract infection and a fever of 104.3.  They took care of her in the emergency room and we were able to take her home the same day.  I was so thankful for the way every thing was handled.  But I was angry too becaue I had taken her to her pediatrician the day before.  She'd been listless and not eating, drinking or urinating.  All of which were not like her at all.  They told me, "Oh, it's nothing." And I said, "No, something is wrong with my child.  Figure it out!" They didn't and said, "Just bring her back tomorrow if she's still like this."  Needless to say, my husband and I were beyond angry.  We wrote a letter to the medical board and changed our pediatrician.  Wow, I have tears in my eyes writing this.  Over five years later and I still shake at this memory.  And thank God my child is all right.  People need to realize that most parents know their kids pretty darn well and know when somthing is wrong!

4. What is your favorite candle scent?
I love pine because it makes me think of Christmas and being in the mountains.  I also love scents that make me think of Autumn, like cinnamon or apple.

5. Coffee or tea?
Both but I tend to drink more coffee.  Which is really weird because I thoroughly disliked coffee until I was in my mid-twenties.  Now I don't go a day without it.

Meet Me On Monday # 6

Meet Me on Monday is hosted by Java at Never Growing Old. This weeks questions (and answers) are as follows:

1. Crunchy or soft tacos?
Crunchy, definitely crunchy.

2. Do you scrapbook?
I used to - on a fairly regualar basis.  Then we lost almost all the pictures from my younger daughter's first year and I was so depressed by it that I didn't do it for a long time.  Now I'd like to get back to it and out printer is broken - of course.  I'm hoping to get this problem fixed soon and catch up on my girls' scrapbooks.

3. Do you take any daily medications?
No, thank goodness.

4. What is your favorite sound?
The sound of my daughter's laughing.  it is the sweetest, purest sound to me.  I can be having a rotten day and the sound of their laughter immediately turns every thing around.

5. Where were you born?
California.

Meet Me on Monday #5

Meet Me on Monday is hosted by Java at Never Growing Old.  This weeks questions (and answers) are as follows:

1. What jewelry do you wear 24/7?
My engagement and wedding rings are the only jewelry I wear religiously.  I can't say 24/7 though because I take them off when I shower and do dishes.  I am completely paranoid about losing them down the drains.

2. Do you twirl your spaghetti or cut it?
Twirl! It took me forever to get a good spaghetti twirl when I was a little girl - I'm not giving it up now.

3. How many siblings do you have?
One younger brother.

4. Were you named after anyone?
No but my mom had another name picked out for me that was after someone.  Thank God my dad vetoed the other name! The story behind it is cringe-worthy and I don't know why my mom wanted the name.

5. Coke or Pepsi?
Diet Pepsi.  I used to love Diet Coke but for some reason, I find it way too sweet now and much prefer the taste of Diet Pepsi.

Meet Me On Monday # 4

Meet Me On Monday is hosted by Java at Never Growing Old.  Here are this week's MMoM questions and answers:

1. Do you have a fireplace in your home?
Yes, but we have never used it; not even one time.  It's wierd that I've never had any inclination to make a fire in it as I adored when my Grandma had one going in hers as a little girl.  Now, I think I'm afraid to have a fire blazing with my kids being as curious about every thing as they are - especially my youngest.

2. Can you drive a stick shift?
I can but it's been quite a while since I have.  I imagine there would be some serious gear grindage if I had to drive one now.

3. How many computers are in your home?
Two - my laptop and my husband's desktop.  and to think, when I was growing up - computers were things in movies like War Games.  I never thought I'd have one let alone two.

4. Are your taxes done yet? Do you do them yourself?
No, they are not done yet - major procrastination, I know.  Yes, we do the darned taxes ourselves.

5. What is your favorite meal of the day?
Dinner.  It's the one meal per day where I know for a fact (because I insist on it) that my whole family eats together.  I love it and my husnad has grown to appreciate it.  Our kids don't know any better and I think it's good for our family to have guaranteed time together every day.

Meet Me On Monday #3

Meet Me On Monday is hosted by Jave at Never Growing Old.

1. What are you wearing right now?
Black and white workout pants, a black t-shirt and bare feet.  It felt really good to kick off the shoes a little while ago.  If I'm at home I'm barefoot or in slippers.

2. Do you have any freckles?
Yes, across the top of my shoulders.

3. What is your favorite Lifesaver flavor?
I don't eat Lifesavers.  That's not to say I don't eat candy, though.  I just don't think of Lifesavers if I want candy.

4. What is the last movie you saw in the theater?
My husband and I went to the theatre last weekend and saw Unknown with Liam Neeson.  It's a great movie with decent twists.  I recommend it if you like action and suspense.

5. Would you rather live without tv or without music?
I'm married to a musician so of course my answer is I'd rather live without television.  Even before meeting my husband this would have been my answer, though.  Other than the fact that I'd much rather read than watch tv - I am a devoted fan of Duran Duran.  I can not imagine never being able to listen to them (and other musicians that I adore) ever again.  That's just too sad to even contemplate.

Have a great week!

Meet Me On Monday # 2

It's time for Meet Me on Monday - hosted by Java at Never Growing Old

1. Did you get any Valentine's Gifts?

My youngest daughter made me the sweetest Valentine's Day card - pictured here.  She made one for her older sister too and she was so very excited to give them to us.  In fact, she is the one who picked out her and her sister's gift for their Dad.  My girls are wonderfully giving and generous and it makes me a very proud Mommy.

I was also very surprised when my husband came home from Target (where I'm sure he was shopping for today LOL) with an adorable Mama necklace for me from one of our friends.  He ran into her there so she had him bring it home.

I feel loved - and spoiled.

2. What is your favorite topping on something toasted?

I love a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich.  Yum!

3. Do you pick out your outfit the night before?

No although it might be a good idea.  I am so not a morning person and one less thing to think about before my caffeine kicks in can only be an advantage.

4. What food item do you absolutely despise?

Liver and lima beans.  Both bring back bad dinner moments from childhood.  If I NEVER have to eat either of these foods again I'll be just fine with that.

5. Righty or lefty?

Right.

Have a great week!

Meet Me On Monday # 1

So, I recently turned 40.  That looks really weird - sorry but it does! LOL I don't think 40 is old but I don't feel like I'm forty, either.  Does that even make sense? I'm not having any sort of melt down about it (except that I'm a little annoyed that my eyes have gotten a bit bad) and yet I can't fully grasp it.

Anyhow, in the spirit of embracing my forties, I am going to participate in some weekly events at a wonderful blog I discovered - Never Growing Old

The perfect explanation about this event, from the blog itself:

Blogging is a funny thing...we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, "who is this person!?" I know them...but yet I don't know them! I want to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great way for all of us to "meet" each other!

Every Sunday Never Growing Old will post five get to know you questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!

1. Did you watch the Superbowl?
Nope.  I have in the past but I just wasn't interested this year.  My husband went with one of his best buddies to a sports bar and seriously cheered for the Steelers.  I played designated driver and it was sad going to pick them up last night.  My girls and I had a fun, relaxing, quiet afternoon and evening together.

2. What is the last book that you read?
This question makes me giggle because I read ALL THE TIME.  Seriously, I am never, ever without a book - or two.  I am about to finish Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas.  it's a wonderful book and a great series.  I'm not sure what I'm reading next.  There's a book coming out tomorrow called A Discovery of Witches that I am quite curious about.  Maybe that's up next - we'll see.

3. What is your favorite kind of cake?
Oh cake - you are my friend - even if I don't eat you all that much because you go straight to my thighs.  LOL I love German chocolate cake but don't eat it anymore because one of my daughters is very allergic to nuts.  I won't risk having it around.  I also adore, and will actually eat, red velvet cake.  Yum!

4. Do you snore?
According to my husband I snore when I'm exhausted or have a stuffy nose - otherwise, no.  He, on the other hand, snores EVERY night.  Some nights are better than others and some nights I have to send him to the couch.  it's sad but true.

5. Do you play an instrument?
Yes.  I play the flute.  My oldest daughter is starting to show an interest in learning to play, too.

This was fun.  I will definitely be participating in this again.  Have a wonderful week, everyone!
